COVID-19 Sampling & Tracking Program

Free COVID-19 testing for the U-M Community

The U-M COVID-19 Community Sampling and Tracking Program (CSTP) is a free, asymptomatic testing program for all U-M students, faculty and staff on the Ann Arbor campus.

CSTP testing meets the weekly mandatory testing requirement as outlined under the U-M COVID-19 Vaccination Policy.

Important Reminders:

  • Participants must be masked at all CSTP locations.
  • Participants must show their Mcard or photo ID. Tests will not be administered to individuals without a photo ID.
  • Registration must be completed once every semester by 5pm the day before your first test appointment.
  • Individuals coming in for testing should not eat or drink within 30 minutes of their test time.
  • Individuals who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the last 90 days are not eligible to participate in CSTP (tests can remain positive for up to 90 days after an initial infection, and would likely not represent a reinfection).
  • Results are emailed and texted to participants within 1-2 calendar days.
  • For questions, please email

The program is not a replacement for symptomatic testing or medical care. Information for testing for those with symptoms is available here.

Mandatory Testing for individuals not up to date on COVID-19 Vaccinations

Individuals who do not submit proof of vaccination and/or who are not considered up to date on their vaccinations are required to participate in weekly COVID-19 testing. Weekly COVID-19 testing must be administered by University Health Service (UHS: symptomatic) or the Community Sampling and Tracking Program (CSTP: asymptomatic).

The CSTP Program and the ResponsiBLUE App
The ResponsiBLUE App provides all students with their COVID-19 testing status by noting the date of their last test through U-M testing programs. Students will either have a “COMPLETED” or “EXPIRED” status displayed on their screen at the end of the symptom check process. Please note that there is an approximate 2-hour delay between CSTP testing and your ResponsiBLUE app status changing to 'COMPLETED.’ ResponsiBLUE does not show test results; you will receive an email with information on how to access your results from LynxDx 48-72 hours after your test. Download/update the app to ensure you have the latest version.
